Comic artist Steve Rude, truly one of the modern masters in the field, is losing his house. He has a mid-November deadline for paying off what he needs to in order to prevent it being auctioned off.

Here is the news article about this!

Rude has a ton of cool stuff up on eBay at the moment, plus, a bunch of original art for sale at his website. Really some amazing pieces going for good prices. Rude's work is really very good, and Nexus is still a brilliant piece of work.

I know almost everyone is struggling right now, but I had to spread the word about this. This kind of life-shattering event could happen to anyone in comics, freelancers have almost no safety net.

First off, I have new eBay auctions up today! There are also a bunch ending tomorrow/Weds.-ish, so please go have a look! We're still getting rid of a ton of comics, graphic novels, manga, art books, toys and video games that we either have doubles of or simply do not have the room for. Bonus, every little bit we get goes towards tax time, which is fast approaching!

I was a bit ill over the weekend, sick enough that I had to stay home from work on Saturday. This is unusual, because I usually try to just power through any illness I get. But, this bug I had made me dizzy every time I tried to stand up on Saturday morning and my fever was fairly high. So I spent most of the day asleep, and slept most of Sunday too. I'm doing better now, just some residual snot and one ear that needs to pop or something.

Paid bills today, which is always my favorite task. Then, worked on auction stuff (obviously) and mail order stuff. Day job wise, we are getting new flooring at the comic shop this weekend. (Desperately needed new flooring, I might add, the carpet in the shop is pretty godawful and well over fifteen years old.) This means my work schedule for the week is all wonky and strange, since us employees are going to be tasked with the moving of all the fixtures/stock to accommodate the guys who will be installing the new (non-carpet) flooring. And then next weekend is Furry Fiesta up in Dallas!

I finally saw the Twilight movie, because [livejournal.com profile] suarez and I watched the Rifftrax version. Even then, it was painful and terrible, and the film was so stupid, my brain reacted by forcing me to fall asleep multiple times during the movie, I guess in order to save itself. It really is a piece of craptastic Mary-Sue type self-insert fiction. Awful, awful, awful.

It's Valentine's time in the World of Warcraft, so I am excitedly doing the holiday themed quests before bed every night. Those are my favorite quests of all!

First off, new eBay auctions are up! Comics, manga, graphic novels, and some rare toys from Mr. [livejournal.com profile] suarez's vast collection. We're selling off our duplicates of things, so get them while they're hot!

Also up: new FurBuy auctions! (NSFW!)

Working on comics every moment I am not at the comic shop. We're turning in Genus #92 and Genus: Male #9 today/tonight/tomorrow in the severely early AM. The hope is they will be printed in time for Further Confusion! Which is a good thing! I'll be putting pre-order information on the online store as soon as I can get the cover images prepped for uploading- those printing bills won't pay themselves!

The rest of this week will be spent getting con stock ready to ship out to [livejournal.com profile] smudge_dragon and shipping it out. (In between shifts at the day job, that is.)

And oh yes, we still have lots of lovely free-to-read comics up at the Radio Comix site, and loads of very cheap Project Wonderful ad boxes on said comics. Check them out!

I just realized I'll soon have to cover convention expenses for my trip out to Further Confusion 2010 in January, so I'm stepping up the auctioning!

Incoming Auction Link Spam:

New eBay auctions are here! Lots of graphic novels, comics, and other nerdy goodies. Since we've combined our households, [livejournal.com profile] suarez and I are selling off duplicates of some pretty great rare stuff we've acquired over the years. Definitely check back, since not only will there be more great comics, manga and GNs up over time, but also toys from his vast collection. And I do mean VAST.

New FurBuy auctions are here! NSFW! Furry comics, adult comics, adult furry comics, the usual. There's some more rarities that should be going up soonish, once I get more stuff scanned.

Not auctions, but check out the Radio Comix Online Store! There's a new issue of Genus, as well as a cute Ben Dunn cat-girl poster that was a warehouse find- we printed them back in 1997, when Radio Comix started! They were unearthed in our last move, a whole box of them! And now, available for sale. More goodies coming here also, again, just have to do some scanning.

And hey, we have free comics you can read, too- you can check them out at this link!

Got a lot done today... work, errands, and some household stuff. The cats are all groomed for the week. Indy loves the grooming, including the Allerpet-C bath. Batty likes the brushing and doesn't mind the bath part. Bandito dislikes the bath part, but enjoys the brushing and being combed. We have been slowly integrating them with each other, with supervised visits. So far, no one has attacked anyone else, there's been some hiding and the occasional hiss. Mostly, there's a lot of nose-sniffing, meeps of annoyance or nervousness, and then a lot of pointed ignoring of the other cat(s) in the room. The possibility that they could all get along is something I hope for, though I'm willing to accept it if they don't all get along. They're already all doing better than they did at the apartment.

Anyway, I mentioned auctions, because I have new auctions up! Please buy my stuff! We are also working on clearing out things we have duplicates on, so there's some nice stuff up. And I'm also auctioning a couple of fairly hard to find PlayStation 1 video games for [livejournal.com profile] willworks. Check them out! More to come later in the week.
New eBay auctions are here!

Now, time to rest up for work tomorrow. Should be a busy week this week. There's so much to do! I lost a day of time (Sunday) to a sinus migraine, so I feel like I am falling behind.

Oh, and if you hadn't heard yet, Yoshito Usui, the creator/artist of the manga Crayon Shin-Chan was found dead in the mountains where he'd been hiking. I always liked his comics, so this news makes me sad.

This reminds me, I have to get things ready for the [livejournal.com profile] saasclub meeting on the 27th. Fourteenth anniversary of the club. Good lord!

EDIT: And yay, I was even able to log in to WoW a little tonight on my main. I now have 81 mini-pets, having just gotten the Pint-Sized Pink Pachyderm from the Brewfest holiday. I'm so glad my main is fixed- I was having an issue when I logged her out in Dalaran where she'd get "stuck". I'd log in, and be unable to move, and then get disconnected from the server. Very frustrating. I can now apparently move when in Dalaran, which is a good thing as I'm only four levels away from 80 and want to get there soon. I realize this paragraph makes no sense if you don't play World of Warcraft. ^_^;

Yesterday was very tiring, as our shop hosted the regional Flames of War tournament. It was insanely crowded! I just went into convention mode, but convention mode does tire me out more than usual retail mode. I just don't do huge crowds well, they're kind of anxiety inducing. Over the years, I've learned to handle it better (I had to with all the cons we do), but it takes a lot out of me. So, last night was spent vegging in front of Netflix movies instead of tackling more unpacking. We watched Big Man Japan
and Speed Racer. The first was very weird, but cool (and also depressing); the second was incredibly goofball and way too long. The Wachowskis really need an editor, I think. Glad we didn't spend money in the theatre to see it, as well.

Friday night, we went over to [livejournal.com profile] denshousha's place to celebrate the birthday of the DreamCast system. We had hamburgers, DreamCast-orange cake and played DreamCast games. It was a nice night. [livejournal.com profile] dacantero is in town this weekend, so JAR brought him over there- we had a nice chat and I took possession of some gorgeous new art for one of the sites and for the next Genus.

Today is my one day off for the week (Mondays being used exclusively for Radio work, so it's not actually a day off), so I plan to do some more stuff around the house. And other fun things like cleaning cat boxes, grooming the cats (we've been using Allerpet/C on them every week, and it actually does make a difference with the allergens), scanning stuff for auctions, and doing dishes and laundry. My life is so exciting! I might go to PetsMart to get some cat supplies later.

Currently Reading: Comics: Love & Rockets: New Stories Vol. 2 by Los Bros. Hernandez; Manga: Oishinbo: Fish, Sushi and Sashimi by Tetsu Kariya and Akira Hanasaki; Books: Inventing Japan: An Unconventional Account of the Postwar Years by William Chapman.

And now, AUCTIONS! Buy this stuff, good lord, I have zero room for it in the house! D:

So, when did FurBuy go from being free to use to charging for services? Wasn't their big fat selling point that they were free and would always be free...? As a free user I can only list five auctions there at a time. Debating whether to return to FurBid (where no one seems to actually bid anymore, except on costume pieces) or whether to shell out the FurBuy annual user fee so I can actually list a decent amount of stuff at once. Hrrm.

We received our final electric bill from CPS for the now-empty Radio apartment, and they are apparently on crack cocaine there, as they are convinced we owe them $512. I am not kidding. We just paid the electric bill in full on August 10. How we managed to use three months worth of power in part of a month, part of a month when we didn't even have any electronics PLUGGED IN, I have no idea. I will be going down there on my next day off and insisting on only speaking to a supervisor, because I've already dealt with a phone peon and she was USELESS. Because also? According to the phone peon, we were billed twice for two or three days- as in, they were counted on one 35-day billing cycle, and then counted on the next 31-day billing cycle. Personally, I think they are scamming like crazy since I cancelled my account with them (don't need it, Casa de Suarez already has power in the Husband's name). They also did not provide me with a breakdown of our usage, which you can guarantee I am going to insist they show me.

Anyway! Big shakes in the comic industry these last couple of weeks. First the whole Marvel/Disney deal, and now Paul Levitz stepping down at DC, who are now to be known as DC Entertainment. I never met Levitz (the last two DC honchos I ever met were Julie Schwartz and Mike Carlin, who probably doesn't know me from Black Adam...), but by all accounts he seems like a jake fellow. And hey, now he gets to write again, which is awesome. (I'm always behind editor/publisher types getting to do what probably pulled them into comics in the first place!) I'm just hoping we get some new decent Wonder Woman merch when all the dust settles, because honestly, she should be a licensing bonanza and somehow, she kinda isn't.

This last Sunday, the Husband took me to see Public Enemies (which I loved, despite some factual inaccuracies- but all the clothes were right on) and bought me dinner at The Lion & Rose (which aside from the food, was kinda sucky- worst service ever). It was a nice break from the grind of work, unpacking and Radio stuff. He's still doing comedy open mics in his off hours (he finally got hired and is now in training at a bank job). I haven't done much comic/manga/book reading lately, due to the move, but I did buy and devour Ooku: The Inner Chambers Vol. 1 by Fumi Yoshinaga. Great stuff! There's likewise been no time to watch anything, so I've just been half-paying-attention when the Husband watches the American version of The Office on Netflix.

Work's been busy. Last week (or was it the week before...? they all run together...), we had Radio deadlines, this week, we are prepping for Free Comic Book Day on Saturday at the day job. I stickered several hundred comics today with the store's logo/website sticker. [livejournal.com profile] willworks and I also brought in a bunch of all-ages appropriate issues of Furrlough to toss on the FCBD tables.

I feel like I am super-behind on everything! But still, lots of stuff is getting done, just none of it is particularly exciting, interesting or glamorous.

Free Comic Book Day is eating my brain, I think. And honestly, if one more person who clearly should know better asks me "So all the comics will be free on Saturday?! I can pick anything I want?!" (usually while fondling an expensive graphic novel), I am going to scream. Seriously!

AUCTIONS (aka, dear god, please buy some of my stuff! I have too much!):
New eBay auctions are here in this link!
New FurBuy auctions are here in this link! (NSFW!)

Also, I might be late, but happy birthday to [livejournal.com profile] cablefraga! Insert your choice of crack-like adorable Japanese girl-group songs here. XD

I just realized I haven't been posting much here. Oops. It was unintentional, mostly because I am just so busy all the time between the day job, life and Radio work, that I forget to do things like update here. Also, nothing particularly interesting or exciting has been going on, so I just don't post much. Hmmm.

My schedule at the day job has settled and I've worked the same shifts every week for almost four weeks now. This is appreciated, since it helps me work the Radio stuff in more easily, when I know what time I'm supposed to have "off". I'm sure it will all go topsy-turvy again once I have to head up to A-Kon, but until then, it's nice to have a regular schedule. Free Comic Book Day is coming up on May 2nd, so everyone is getting ready for that- we even have special t-shirts to wear (and yes, they got me a small one). Aside from the usual free comics, we'll be hosting Lea Hernandez ([livejournal.com profile] divalea) and Will Allison ([livejournal.com profile] willworks) to draw sketches for people, so that will be really fun.

Speaking of A-Kon, we're starting to get things ready for that show. Once again, I am staffing for the cosplay track, which should be interesting this year. We're trying some new stuff, and we'll see how it works out. Maybe it'll work great and maybe it'll fail utterly. Either way, it's a learning process.

Today being Monday, it's mail order day (which used to happen at the end of the week, but now happens Monday so we're not rushed). I'll be processing orders and dealing with auction stuff. Excitement! We're also in the middle of digging through all our backed up data CDs looking for logos for [livejournal.com profile] smudge_dragon, so she can start making more templates for the Radio Comix site. More templates mean more comics, more comics mean soon I can get the Project Wonderful ad boxes done for the site. Yay! (We don't have enough up yet to qualify, heh!) Once those boxes go live, I'll post here to let folks know, in case they want to buy some cheap ads. I also have to update the online store today. And the SinFactoryComix.com site got updated again as well, so we have to get the next update prepped for that.

I think the transition to online delivery of comics with eventual perfect bound collections is going pretty well so far, actually. I think because we're so small, it might be a little easier for us to change our focus and mindset. On the dead-tree front, two books went to the printers last week- Genus #90 and Furrlough #189 (the last floppy Furrlough issue). They should be shipping to the distros by the end of the month.

And of course, I am still doing lots of auctions, since we are moving again (what, already?!) this summer and I need to get rid of all this accumulated STUFF.

AUCTIONS:
New eBay auctions are here in this link!
New FurBuy auctions are here in this link! (NSFW!)
