People will tell themselves whatever they want to hear in order to protect their chosen illusions.
Their priest instructs them to believe that God's word is that homosexuals are evil. But if God made homosexuals, then he made them evil, and God's not like that, is he? So it must be a choice. That's right! You choose it, just like any other sin, like lust or pride or self-respect! You choose to do it, and that's the devil's work right there, isn't it?
It's no greater a stretch of logic than Creationism, really. And to an intellectual like me, it's pathetic and laughable... until I remember how many Germans believed the Nazi propaganda about Jews using the blood of Christian children to make their Matzohs.
