Cold as Ice

It's been days of very cold weather here. Which isn't so bad when you can stay inside, bundled in layers, but not so very fun today, when I have to go to work at VGSX. My work clothes are not the warmest things on the planet. I'm also stressing about work because tonight, during my shift, the district manager will be using our back room for a meeting of some kind, and thus watching us on the monitors while we work. How on earth will I be able to scratch my butt?! (Actually, I am more worried I will forget the complicated and scripted greeting system Video Game Store Y insists we us since the merger between X and Y. Seriously, that shit is long, and about as easy to say as a chunk of George Lucas-written dialogue.)

In Radio-related things, it's been mostly catch-up on stuff that had to be set aside during our recent Deadlines From Hell. So, a lot of paperwork, order processing work, email answering, contributor copy packing, restocking from the storage and office tidying. Personal-wise, I have been pretty lazy since the big deadline. Mostly taking it easy and trying not to stress out, since I can ill afford to get sick. I am now in a constant state of worry about the yearly taxes, since this is the time of year when those are coming due.

Today, before work, I will probably do more paperwork and order processing stuff, and tackle some more of the household chores that were put off during the major work push. Yuck.

Totally random and apropos of nothing, but rankling my little black feminist heart: yesterday, I found out the founder of eHarmony.com has connections to the Focus on the Family group. Ick. Even if he is trying to sever connections, they discriminate against gays and lesbians on the site (you can't get matches there if you are homosexual...) On a whim, I took their free test, answered completely honestly, and discovered I am completely un-matchable. Hmm, I bet it had something to do with the fact that I consistently marked that I was outspoken, not interested in home-making, competitive, severely career-oriented, stubborn, and argumentative. I really doubt those qualities would make me a helpful little wife for some very Christian guy. I was actually pretty thrilled to fail their "test". I also discovered that the founder of Curves (the gym for women only) contributes money to the anti-abortion group Operation Save America. This was depressing, as I think the idea of a place where women can work out together without fear of getting hit on or without having to feel embarrassed is a good idea. But I just can't support a business that is going to use the money they make off me to take away my right to control my own body and reproductive functions.

And, relating to comics and the women working in them, once again [livejournal.com profile] willworks speaks the truth! Go, read it, it's awesome.

Oh, I was wondering when you might be using that vintage snow leopard picture of mine for Furrlough? (Well, if you are still interested... x_x) I'm just wondering because I want to get my local comic store to get a bunch of copies. ^_^

That is pretty depressing about Curves. That makes me feel rather uncomfortable about going to one. ._.

Haven't figured out the schedules yet, it's something I have to get to still in all the catch-up work I am doing (also known as "paperwork", heh).

We did just send Diamond the information for the June books, so it's definitely some time after that. I know I've got a couple of other covers that were scheduled already to get placed (I know Mary Bellamy has the July cover... there's a couple others, but I don't have my schedule book handy right now...), so probably fall some time. Still working out what goes where.

Yeah, the Curves thing really bothered me, too. Bleah.

Ok, cool. ^_^ That's so exciting for me!

It's the same old crap - queer people and depressed people and people who don't want to get married aren't seen as "reasonable" people by those who are brainwashed from childhood with the Big Lie. I wonder how many of the marriages that come from that site turn into nightmares 2 years later when the limerence has run out and they've finally realized that they're sexually incompatible.
My advice for those who want to get married is to live together for a minimum of 3 years and have protected sex as much as they want. Not getting past limerence (18 monhts max) and not becoming sexually comfortable through mutual experimentation are the biggest causes of divorce in the country. (Note that the Bible Belt leads the nation not only in divorces but in abortions.)
I read something depressing yesterday on the plane. Because the US government will only give aid to countries if they sponsor programs which teach abstinence and are against condom use, the rate of HIV infections in countries that are receiving aid from the US is growing where it was declining before. Every 10 seconds somebody is infected. If 55% of the White House and Congress was infected we'd see big changes I'm sure...

Holy crap! Limerance! I never knew what that was, and now thanks to WikiPedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Limerance) I do!

Shit, I think I've suffered through that thing on more than one occasion. What a great definition! You taught me a new word today. ^_^

That is depressing news about the government. But then, they probably don't see lots and lots of brown people dying of AIDS as a real problem, you know? Ugh.

I just wish I had seen more of that parody that was done! Girl: "I am looking for a guy with a tattoo..of a pirate! That would be hot" Guy: "I am want someone with my exact same sexual hangups!"

I'm sorry to hear about Curves, but that info about the eHarmony test is hysterical. I've had severe resevations about that stupid site since I heard about it. I think I would probably fail, too, and for much the same reasons. ;)

Also -- I sent you an email a little while ago, but I accidentally sent it from my webzine account (byzarium). Just so's you know who it's from when you see it. :P
