Light-Table Abuse!

Seems like there are some people out there who have trouble understanding the concept of "creator owned"- as in, when they create something, it should be something they themselves came up with. Not panels lightboxed out of another, more famous manga.
Seems one of the current Rising Stars of Manga contestants really likes Blade of the Immortal. No, I mean they REALLY like it, to the point of copying panels and whole pages and using them in their submission.
The page of the submissions, the one you want is called "Samurai Zombie" by Hendra Wahjudi. Considering this sort of shit doesn't even fly in Japan (where an artist of a manga was recently punished for swiping panels out of Slam Dunk), this definitely shouldn't fly here. Although, the history of manga-style comics is unfortunately littered with pages that are swiped... heck, even Tsukasa Kotobuki's Mechanical Man Blues, a rather obsure manga that we published had character designs ripped off, line for line, by someone at Image comics. (We mentioned it, though, and they did the right thing and changed the designs...)
Thanks to
v_lockhart for bringing this to my attention. And thanks to
banzchan for creating the "Light-Table Abuse" tag line.
The moral of this story kids, is that stealing is wrong. It's not "an homage", it's not "a tribute". When you copy panels and pages from an existing manga or comic, it's cheating, plain and simple.
EDIT: And there's a thread about it at the TokyoPop Forum, too, where people rightfully say the submission in question should be taken out of the running.
There's also a thread on Anime News Network, so you know, it's not like people aren't figuring this out...
Me, I am wondering why this submission is *still* up and eligible for the voting to win the contest. It should be taken down and disqualified at the very least.
