Thrift Scores
Apr. 22nd, 2004 08:21 pmToday, I took the day off and went with
willworks and
atomicpanda to two different Goodwills. ^_^ There was a lot of crap, as usual, but I found some gems buried in the junk. Like a brand new Paul Frank t-shirt with tags for only $1.99 because it was in the kids' section! Score! Those shirts are usually between $20-40, depending on design, so this was a mega-bargain. I also found a cute grey plaid pleated miniskirt and a black t-shirt with an Aztec dude kissing a maiden in an overblown romance novel cover painting style. It's for a local Mexican restaurant, but man, the picture is awesome. It looks like a velvet painting on a shirt!
The best scores were the records though! The original soundtracks to Valley of the Dolls and Sayonara! Werner Muller's Orchestra playing Cherry Blossom Time! Four Stops in Brazil! Holiday in Nippon! Tropical Ballroom! Music For Bachelors (with requisite sultry pinup girl in babydoll nightie on the cover)! I got a batch of records, all in great shape (many with original tissue paper inner sleeves), all with incredible covers, and all *super-cheap*! I'm playing them now, and fortunately only one seems to be unplayable- Hawaii in Hi-Fi, which coincidentally, has the best-looking sleeve. (Gorgeous doe-eyed faintly Hawaiian-looking brunette girl in a pareo, of course with a flower in her hair.) Sadly, when you put the needle down on Hawaii in Hi-Fi, it just SLLIIIIIIIIDDDES all the way across the record in one fell swoop. @_@ Kinda alarming! So, I'd guess that one is a loss. But the cover's great, so maybe I'll use it for wall art or something. ^_^
Anyway, that was my day today. What, you thought I worked on comics twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week? Nope, sometimes even I take a day off here and there. It's pretty rare though!
