Which Side of the Fence Are You On?

cluegirl's journal.
Garrison Keillor Makes A Stand
And I give him a big fat A-MEN.
Anyone in this country who is NOT a rich, white, heterosexual male yet who supports the current political regime is sadly deluded if they think the Republicans are going to do anything for them. The current administration is all about making themselves and their rich friends even richer, at the expense of the rest of the country. I can't support that in any way, shape or form, just as I cannot support a political party that makes it clear through its policies that I, as a woman, am worth less than anyone else.
I'm drawing a line here. Normally, I don't talk about politics much, having been fairly oblivious to them for most of my life, but now is where I take a stand. You bet your ass I'm voting this election. This country is sliding into ruin- and I don't think people today have the same spirit to come together if we end up in another Depression. I might only be one person, but my voice can still be heard and I can still at least TRY to make a difference. I absolutely refuse to go back in time to the 1950's, when people of color couldn't vote in many states, when abortions were illegal, when gay people had to hide and live in constant fear, when women were "less" than men, when racism was rampant, when being "different" meant being oppressed or discriminated against, and when censorship ruled the day. Yes, they had lovely clothes and great cars, but that doesn't make an entire decade perfect.
If this offends you or your political beliefs, that's tough. Unfriend me if you want, but on this subject, I am a rock and I cannot be moved.
PS I feel I should point out the question in the subject line of this post is rhetorical. ^_^; It's taken from a t-shirt that Vivienne Westwood made to launch the boutique SEX back in the olde punk rock days of yore, and also a line in the Adam and the Ants song "The Magnificent Five" from the Kings of the Wild Frontier album.
