[WoW] Gay Guild Update
Feb. 13th, 2006 12:44 pmGay rights win on World of Warcraft
Wow, it even made the BBC news site! But thank goodness Blizzard apologized to the player in question and didn't action her account for advertising her gay-friendly guild. And all the GMs are having sensitivity training. I don't know how that will help, since apparently the GMs were just ready to ban anyone for the mere mention of the word "gay"- whether it was in a positive or negative context.
In all the Valentine's Day content though, you can give love tokens to NPCs that are the same gender as your character, provided you are "wearing" the right scent (cologne for the female NPCs and perfume for the male NPCs). My female troll put on cologne, and sure enough, only the female NPCs would accept her love tokens. So, it looks like Blizzard isn't actually opposed to GLBT players or content, they just had a dumb GM. And of course, all the incredibly homophobic teenage boys who play the game. But those really aren't Blizzard's fault...
