This pisses me off. I know there are women on the staff of Comic-con. Why the fuck didn't they say anything? Did they not get a vote? Until women in comics (both the industry and the fandom) stop acting like angry territorial t-rexes and stop sniping at each other for the chance to be Only Girl in the Room, things will never fucking get better for anyone. Yeah, things might get better for whichever girl happens to be holding the Talking Stick of Geek Power, but only ONE of us can hold that stick at a time, and isn't that just a little bit shitty, that guys in comics can do and say whatever crazy nonsense they like, but only one of us female-types can ever have attention at a time? It's bullshit, especially when I personally know so many incredibly talented, driven, hard-working women in comics. They are all different, and all worthy of attention. All at the same time, too! (And for the record, the talented women I know in comics also actually believe the phrase "Girl Power is Not Singular"- we don't want power just for ONE girl or woman, but for all of them!)
Last I checked, Ramona Fradon is still alive. Nominated for the Eisner Hall of Fame this year, too. But I guess it would be too much work to ask her to be a guest or something. Not to mention all the other women who are currently working in comics who are *showing up anyway on their own dime* who could be guests. There are so many women currently working in comics who could have been asked. Why weren't any of them asked? Have the ladies used up all their "turns" already?
Come on, comics. Grow up and get your shit together. Sheesh.
The official guest list. Yes, there are many talented and deserving male creators on there, including many I personally like. But it doesn't change the fact that there's not a single woman on the list. Not one!
