Because it entertains me when I am bored! ^_^ Lookie, random j-pop and j-rock videos!
Sawada Kenji, circa 1977. This guy played the dad in Happiness of the Katakuris, but in the 1970's and 1980's, he was Japan's glam dandy of rock/pop. He wore a ton of makeup!
More Sawada Kenji, "Andromeda" from 1980. Nice space outfit!
Akira Terao (the actor) had this song as a hit in the late 1970's- early 1980's, "Red Diamond Ring". This one is posted mostly for
jameshanrahan, since every time we hear this song, we're like "it's THAT GUY, the one with THAT SONG!" Well, now we know who and what it is!
Buck-Tick music video for "Just One More Kiss", my favorite song of theirs. Buck-Tick is one of the bands that got me interested in j-pop/j-rock music that wasn't made in the 1970's, and they were doing that big hair crazy makeup thing back in 1988, way before most visual-kei bands were out of junior high or elementary school.
Buck-Tick, performing "Just One More Kiss" live. Digging his purple lipstick and giant bleached hair.
X-Japan performing "Rusty Nail" on Music Station. I can't find the version of this I first saw- I'd seen the band in Tokyo Pop, one of my favorite movies of all time, but this song was the first of theirs I'd ever heard. (In the movie, they did a terrible version of "Home on the Range". The movie is also notable for being produced by Kaz and Fran Rubel Kazui, who later produced Buffy, and for having a cameo appearance by female wreslter Bull Nakano, back when she was still kind of cute.) I usually don't make any reference to my love for X-Japan, because the Hide fans kind of frighten me. ^_^;
Luna Sea video for "True Blue".
Luna Sea video for "Rosier". Luna Sea was another band I discovered via Music Station Super Live specials that were taped for me by one of my Japanese penfriends. I really liked them because, like X-Japan, they actually could play. You can blame these guys, Buck-Tick and X-Japan for why I am so discerning when it comes to j-rock now- anyone can tart up in a pretty costume and some makeup, but I like some skill as well. This is another reason why I really liked Duel Jewel and Camino when introduced to their music at A-Kon.
Alas, I wasn't able to find any good Pink Lady videos, just a million references to "Lady Marmalade" featuring Pink... -_-; And the only references I found to Sharan-Q had to do with Morning Musume! Who knew the singer for Sharan-Q helped create that group?!
