Anthrocon: One Day and Counting
Jun. 23rd, 2008 08:46 am![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
We leave tomorrow morning for Anthrocon! I'm anxious about the long drive, anxious about our big book arriving safely at the convention center, and anxious about getting everything done before we leave. So, standard pre-con operating procedure.
Saturday night, I got bitten by a mosquito (in the house, of all places!). Twice on the side of my big toe, and twice on my forehead. I'm having my usual terrible reaction to the bites, despite liberal applications of Benadryl cream. Alas, I must wear shoes at the convention. I don't believe in not wearing shoes in public, unfortunately. (This is also why you will rarely see me in flip-flops or sandals in public either- I like my feet covered, thanks. Total strangers have stepped on my feet enough in my lifetime.) So, if you see a big reddish-purple mark on my forehead, it's not due to head trauma, it's from mosquitoes.
My allergies have been very bad the last two days, I think because we had some fitful bits of rain. The trees have gone bananas and are pumping out pollen like there's no tomorrow, and the mold is doing its level best to keep up. Last night, when I planned to get some more work done, I ended up having to go to bed around 9:30 due to a massive sinus migraine. I still have a headache this morning. But, I have a lot to do today so we can leave tomorrow. Can't be helped!
What's left to do today:
Radio work:
--pay printer for Furrlough #183 Now we're skint! Hooray! Wait...
--check mail at the PMB
--finish packing Furrlough and Milk subscriptions (Genus subscriptions will go out when we get back from the con...)
--ship as much mail order as possible
--process auctions
--ship as many auctions as possible
--start laying out Furrlough #184, Milk #63 and Hit the Beach #14 (if you have stuff for these, get it in asap please!)-- this got started, will be finished when we return.
--go to bank to get change
--process orders
--make sure website gets updated
Personal:
--pack clothes & toiletries
--charge DS and iPod (it's a road trip...)
--go to bank to make sure the ridiculous $1065 month-to-month rent can be paid
--pay rent (yes, a whole week early, since we will be returning when it's due)
--make sure new lease is ready to sign (If ready, sign it.)-- this will be ready when we get back
--pack more boxes to move (we move as soon as we get back from Anthrocon... yes, really...)
Re: Hit the Beach #14: we have a few pages open, so if you were planning to do a swimsuit illo for it, better get it in NOW. (Or give it to us at the con.) We'll have to start putting it together as soon as we get home from the con. Please email the illo (plus your pen name, real name, and actual physical snailmail address, otherwise we can't send you trib copies) to
willworks at willworks (at) gmail (dot) com. This issue features a brand new cover by TRUMP, so it's shaping up very nicely!
Page dimension information is located here. Standard HTB guidelines apply: it has to feature anthropomorphic characters (or anime-style cat-girl type characters), swimsuits must be involved somehow, no more than a PG-13 rating, try to avoid horizontally-oriented illos (they confuse the printers), black & white art only. (You could send color, but we'd just grayscale it.)
Now I am off to take more allergy meds, eat some breakfast and get started on everything. I have a LOT to do today. Then, tomorrow is hours and hours and hours in the rental car, driving to the con. In Pittsburgh. It's going to be a long trip.
Forgot to mention, I saw the fourth Rambo movie on DVD this weekend. Now, I've never seen any of the others, so seeing this 4th one was unintentionally hilarious. Not since Riki-Oh have I witnessed so many people cut in half, so many intestines flying about willy-nilly or so many heads exploding. So, while I would not say Rambo 4 was a "good" movie, I will say it was an entertaining and funny movie.
Also: George Carlin died. That's sad, I love his work.
