Save Steve Rude's House!

Comic artist Steve Rude, truly one of the modern masters in the field, is losing his house. He has a mid-November deadline for paying off what he needs to in order to prevent it being auctioned off.

Rude has a ton of cool stuff up on eBay at the moment, plus, a bunch of original art for sale at his website. Really some amazing pieces going for good prices. Rude's work is really very good, and Nexus is still a brilliant piece of work.

I know almost everyone is struggling right now, but I had to spread the word about this. This kind of life-shattering event could happen to anyone in comics, freelancers have almost no safety net.

Yeah, you're not kidding everyone is struggling right now. Almost every day I read a plea from some artist who is about to become homeless. I'd be living on the streets right now myself, if it wasn't for the kindness of my family.

These are horrible times to be an artist.

I just can't believe Steve Rude is having this trouble! He's worked for all the major companies, pretty sure he also did storyboard work/design work for animation/film. That he isn't getting work is just crazy.

I can believe it. It doesn't matter how good or how famous you are. If there's no work, there is no work. In a depression, Art is the very FIRST thing to get cut. I knew this was going to be a horribly bad depression when I had trouble finding work at the end of 2006, beginning of 2007. Artists are the canary in the mine shaft. At the first sign of trouble, we're the FIRST ones who get our jobs cut. During horrible times? No artist is immune during horrible times, unless your father or mother is CEO of a huge company. It'll be years before artists can get their jobs back.
