Good news: Sky Captain was an awesome movie! Jude Law was dishy, Angelina Jolie was super cool!

Bad news: The film projector at the Alamo Quarry theatre sucks balls! Due to their crappy projectors, we could barely make out details on the screen, it was so dark.

Good news: We complained and got free passes!

Bad news: They're passes to another Regal theatres showing, and Regal obviously is using cheap bulbs in their projectors.

Good news: My episodes of The Tribe taped just fine! They were filled with drama and angst and severely bad over-acting. This pleases me greatly. ^_^

Bad news: The Style Network re-ran that episode of How Do I Look? where they give the adorable comic book nerd girl a makeover. She dresses super-cute and funky, and obviously has excellent taste, but her Paris-Hilton-wannabe bitch sisters force her to get a makeover. A makeover, I might add, that her fiance doesn't like *at all*. It makes me mad every time I see it, but I can't help but watch it, since the comic book nerd girl is SO adorable before they give her the makeover.

Okay, that's it.

I loved Sky Captain. it had all the art direction I love, from "milled Buildings", baggy pants, Vintage aircraft, and all that stuff. Nummy!.

Oh did you notice that Angelina Jolie's helmet she wore when she flew was one of those Wally Wood bubble helmets? I got a good chuckle out of that. The in jokes and homages flew fast and thick. Loved it. :-)

I did notice that, actually, it was pretty cool.

I also like that Sir Laurence Olivier was in it, and in the background of one of the city shots, a movie theatre was showing Wuthering Heights. Neat touch!

I definitely need to see it in a better theatre so I can catch more background details. The crappy projector really ruined a lot of details for us.

(Though..... Gwyneth Paltrow's character was really dressed in a much more 1940's style than late 1930's.... but we can blame Stella McCartney for that. Her hair was also much more 40's than 30's. The 30's was much more about the Marcel wave still.)

We saw previews for The Aviator- can't wait for that. Gwen Stefani as Jean Harlow! ^_^

There were lots of background touches like "Wuthering Heights." The other marquees I noticed escape me, though.

I think my only complaint is sometimes the effect was overwhelming and broke the illusion, both in the ways it made me gasp at how good it looked or at how obviously unreal it was. I also hate how most action is kind of unexciting in the digital age, because it's so precise.

Yeah, I almost posted about that How Do I Look. I watched it last night too. God, her sisters are such tendwhore Hilton wannabes! Ugh! It was awesome that her husband was mad that they had shredded her old clothes and didn't care for the make over. What was it? "If she'd looked like this 5 years ago I probably wouldn't have talked to her." Obviously a guy who liked her because she's not afraid to be herself and not just some random, carbon copy, SMS mall airhead like her sisters. I couldn't tell them apart.
Some people on How Do I Look need help but Yvette didn't.

We figured out that the sisters were jealous because Yvette is getting married, and they aren't. Obviously, that turned them into super-bitches out for revenge! Did you also notice that one of the sisters was dressing *completely* wrong for her weight class? The ladies on What Not To Wear would have had a field day with her. If you're over a certain boob size, tube tops just make you look chunkier.

HUGE BOO on that. It irks me that sometimes the person's self expression is totally squashed by some trendy idiot. Yes, let's all dress the same and in a few months the "look" they gave her will be "so last season". I do have to admit it's neat when they do it right and the person is thrilled but I always sort of feel sad that their unique look is gone...
