Birfday!

It was a pretty good day, all told. [livejournal.com profile] dustmeat, [livejournal.com profile] jameshanrahan and I went to see Memoirs of a Geisha, which was very pretty. At no point ever did I think "ah, it's Japan!", throughout the whole movie, I just kept thinking "ah, it's some fantasy Asian country where some of the characters happen to speak Japanese sometimes!" You know, like in martial arts comics or video games or something. Michelle Yeoh and Gong Li were breathtakingly beautiful, the kimono were stunning, and the scenery was all very pretty. But as great as all the actresses were, I just kept thinking it was a Chinese film. It was nice to see Mako in a cameo role, though.

After the movie, we all trucked out to dinner at Luigi's for Italian food. It's a little spendy, but it was a celebration. I had veal saltimbocca and toasted ravioli, so I was a happy camper! After dinner we came back to the apartment and watched The Aristocrats, which was pretty darn funny.

Thank you to everyone who has wished me well on my birthday, and double thanks to everyone for saying I don't look my age! When I was 16, I hated looking younger, but now I am starting to appreciate it, just like my mom said I would! My plan is to be as obnoxious as possible about how I am 35 now, because it seems to mess with people. Heh... I also got some very nice things for my b-day- a t-shirty tunic from the Factory label printed all over with Edie Sedgewick photos in black & white (which I can wear as a mini-dress, I'm sure), the NaNa live action movie soundtrack deluxe set plus an Amazon gift certificate (from [livejournal.com profile] matthigh!), an Akiko Wada CD (from [livejournal.com profile] willworks), bath goodies (from [livejournal.com profile] dustmeat) and of course, free dinner and a movie. Yay! I have already spent the Amazon gift certificate, which was the most non-intuitive thing they ever could have made (you need to give them your credit card info as well as the gift certificate info, and then double and triple check to make sure they use the gift certificate and don't charge your card... huh?!). I picked up Arena (yes, the Duran Duran movie, most notable for the lingerie-and-leather-clad roller derby girls in the middle of it), What a Way To Go and Pretty in Pink. Yay for new DVDs!

Tomorrow I work at VGSX, so it is back to the grindstone. Then, we are going to attempt to go up to Ushicon this weekend. I am waiting to hear back if it's at all possible to get industry badges or anything, but I have no idea if we can. I am hoping we can still kite some table space from [livejournal.com profile] superhappy if we can manage the badges. Sheesh, I must be crazy wanting to do another con right after this one we just wrapped up! In between all that, we have to work on Novel #1, Manga #3 and of course, the Radio work. Whee... back to reality here. Now if I could just stop biting the inside of my mouth while I'm sleeping, everything would be completely back to normal...

I'm not even goin' to Ushicon this year, so they could probably just give you the table they have reserved for me. =P

But would they do that? Wouldn't you have to at least show up on the first day to "pick up" the table? Every con I've been to (except A-Kon) has been completely wacky about who gets to pick up the tables that are reserved, yet they don't care who takes them after that. (Witness Anime Weekend Atlanta, where a horrible troll-beast decided to squat at Lea's artist alley table, and the con staff did next to nothing to remove said squatter...)

Let me know if we could at least do that- you could leave after that. Also, as we can't get in until at least noon on Friday, if you don't pick up the table in the morning, they might just give it to some fan artist or something...

I'm glad you had a good birthday, though I wish every day could be as good for you. And don't forget -- you'll never be old, 'cause I'm always going to be half a year older than you. ^_- That, and the words "Elin" and "old" don't actually coincide in any language known to humankind.

[livejournal.com profile] vkacademy and I watched "The Aristocrats" last night as well. Fun stuff! (And, of course, I'm a big fan of Penn and Teller, so...)

Ha, how weird is that we watched the movie on the same day? Wacky!

belated wishes

yep. just wait until you're 55!

glad you had a nice day!

and i have gifts for you!! only one of them is not finished, so you will have to wait until it is.

of course, you'll still probably get them one month after you got your Christmas package...
so by that standard they won't be late.

And you know what else makes you feel really young? Getting asked by people at the door/on the phone if your parents are home. ::snickers::

Ugh, my sinuses. WHY CAN'T I JUST GET THEM REMOVED?!?! Dammit... making me miss classes that Mom & Pop pay good money for...

Happy Birthday!

Ushicon did offer me a pro badge (and nothing else), the one time they kinda sorta invited me, so I'd expect they can manage. I was gonna say call ahead, but getting a con staffer a couple days before a con? That would be amazing.
I kiiiind of want to go to Ushi to see friends, but it would violate my year-long vacation from cons (and aggravation).

(I sure wish VGSX would get Game Cube power cords in!)

I've emailed our request in, and have heard nothing back. We might not even get to go, if we can't swing badges. We're mostly going to see friends and sell more books. It's just weird.

I haven't been at VGSX since the 15th, it's going to be weird when I go back...
