This is a meme I can get behind. Because to me, gay rights are just human rights, and everyone deserves equality.

"We would like to know who really believes in gay rights on livejournal. There is no bribe of a miracle or anything like that. If you truly believe in gay rights, then repost this and title the post as "Gay Rights". If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this. Thanks."

If you don't believe in gay rights, then just ignore this.

Just because I choose not to post this in my journal doesn't mean I don't believe in gay rights. That sort of instantly turned me off to this meme, since I do consider myself rather rabid about the rights of gays to marry whom they want and not suffer discrimination.

Eh, I didn't write the text in quotes, just thought I would repost it. *shrug*

I'm pretty rabid about gay rights myself.

Sorry, I shouldn't be so fighty. :D My head is spinning from proofreading a bunch of legalese.

It amazes me that humanity has come so far and is still so primitive in some ways. I have yet to hear a "good" argument against gay marriage.

Well, don'tcha know? It'll mean people will start marrying major appliances or dogs or statues or something if gay people can get married! ^_^ That's the argument I always get told, and it always just seems ridiculous and makes the person telling me that seem stupid. ^_^;

The most common argument (excuse?) I’ve heard is from parents, who are seem to be afraid to have to discuss the subject with their kids. If you listen carefully, some parents will even suggest their kids run a risk of ‘picking it up’.

Um,yeah....That doesn’t make a lot of sense to me either.

I’ve no idea how it works. People do a lot of things, and for the most part their sexuality is not on my radar. Whom they love just isn’t any of my business. At most I’m just happy they have found another human to share their lives with.

I will say this: Growing up, I was ‘programmed’ to hate homosexuals. This was pretty standard in far rural Texas. It was something you didn’t dare question. If I can leave that mindset, I suspect others will too.

i have never "gotten" the theory that gays shouldn't be parents because they'll make their kids gay...

the vast majority of the glb folk i know were raised by heterosexuals.

heh...make me think is someone wants doesn't like homosexuals, then perhaps they should direct their venom toward heterosexual parents. After all, aren’t they the ones who keep having babies that grow up to be homosexual?

no, the real reason is that all those closeted gays might actually be forced to confront their orientation.

That arguement's never made sense because dogs and table lamps can't consent!
But if a table lamp COULD talk, and wanted to marry a human, I wouldn't stand in their way!

The most popular answer I hear when asked "why sholdn't gays be allowed to marry" is "because it defiles the sanctity of marriage".

You know what else "defiles" the sanctity of marriage?

Divorce.

There is no "sanctity" anymore, so that answer is bullshit.

In a world that needs as much love as possible, it's a god damned shame that people are trying to put obstacle up to prevent it. Love is love, regardless of gender, and I abhore the notion that it should follow "guidelines".

Gays are human as well. They should have just as many rights as anyone else.

SONO TOORI!! All these people who are anti-homosexual probably talk about how "Jesus is love" and "God says love one another", but then they turn around and spout hate, hate, hate. I prefer love to hate; there's not enough of it in this world.

I don't really know what it means to "believe in gay rights". I don't think I believe in them. I don't believe in feminism, or gay or lesbian rights or african american rights or whatever. I believe there should be equal rights for everyone, and discrimination in either direction, good or bad, either annoys or flat out makes me mad. I get mad when there are "ladies days" without a male equivalent for example... Why do girls get cheaper cinema tickets in japan? it's just not fair.
