You Can't Laugh All The Time

Because my last post was such a downer (and I apologize to those on my friend's list who really don't want to read ANYTHING political), a post filled with mindless fluff.
I watched a crazy Indian movie tonight on Turner Classic Movies of all channels. Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge was a romantic comedy/musical from 1995 about a young man and woman who fall in love while vacationing in Europe. Unfortunately, she's got an arranged marriage back in India (they live in London), so he follows her there and tries to win over her family during the three-week pre wedding period. Wackiness and endless singing ensues, plus massive amounts of costume changes for the ladies. The lead guy, a rather dorky looking fellow, had horrible Jon Stamos or Charles in Charge hair. Occasionally though, he would have these moments of total coolness, often when wearing a black leather cowboy hat just like Zubat. At the end, the groom and his friends go to kick lead guy's ass (with huge sticks!), and he takes it like a man until they hit his dad. Then suddenly, the movie explodes into an awesome fight scene, complete with HK film sound effects. AWESOME. It is also worth a watch for the zany musical numbers filmed in the Swiss Alps, complete with picturesque Swiss cows. The movie also felt like it was three or four hours long, but I'm sure that was just me.
It was a much better choice than the awful horror movie She-Creature I ended up watching the night before. I should know better than to watch horror movies before I go to sleep, because then I can't sleep at all. Also, the lack of sleep Thursday night has confused my body clock, and is probably why I am still up so late tonight.
We had dinner tonight with
dustmeat and JAR, plus
suarez and
denshousha. A good time was had by all, and afterwards some of us retired to our place, where we watched documentaries about venomous serpents and spiders. ^_^ A pretty pleasant evening, all told.
In other things, Batty decided to curl up in my lap today. He almost never does that, not being a big lap cat. (He's much more of a "I'll just hang out here next to you" kind of cat.) He's getting to be really cuddly lately, which is fine by me. I'm still at a loss as to why Bandito seems to think petting is some kind of torture designed to impede him. He'll endure a couple of passes, and then walk off in a huff, complete with dirty look for whoever was trying to pet him. (The only exception to this is
willworks- Bandito adores him.) I think he'll mellow out once he's fixed.
Not too much else going on. ^_^ Sleep would be nice, but I know better than to try and force myself to sleep. At least tomorrow is Saturday, so there's nothing too terribly pressing I have to do in the morning.
And OH! I just realized Monday is the premiere of the new season of The Tribe on WAM. Hooray for terrible sci-fi soap opera for teens!
