Texas School bans Crossdressing Day for Homecoming; substitutes "Camo Day".

What the hell? Is Sadie Hawkins Day next? Lord knows, you don't want those ladies to be askin' the menfolks out, why- they might get uppity idears! Next thing ya know, they'd be wantin' ta vote and own property!
Crossdressing encourages homosexuality? Well, I guess all those pants my mom made me wear when I was growing up are to blame for why I had crushes on Julie Newmar and Tina Louise! It's the PANTS! They made me think girls were pretty!
This is totally ridiculous, crossdressing has nothing to do with homosexuality. Haven't these people ever seen Ed Wood? Just because some gay men like to crossdress doesn't mean every crossdresser is gay or even bisexual. This rigid kind of thinking is so backwards. I could have sworn we were living in 2004, not 1954.
For the record, the football team and cheerleader team at my high school would dress in drag for one day during homecoming week. They'd basically dress up as the opposite group- guys in cheerleader outfits, girls in football outfits. It was an old tradition that went back years. I doubt it made anyone gay, though I did later see two of the star football players making out with each other at the Bonham Exchange (the big gay club here in SA). But I am pretty sure they were gay before they dressed in drag. You can't be "turned gay". You either are or you aren't, you're just born that way.

Date: 2004-11-17 11:05 am (UTC)Their priest instructs them to believe that God's word is that homosexuals are evil. But if God made homosexuals, then he made them evil, and God's not like that, is he? So it must be a choice. That's right! You choose it, just like any other sin, like lust or pride or self-respect! You choose to do it, and that's the devil's work right there, isn't it?
It's no greater a stretch of logic than Creationism, really. And to an intellectual like me, it's pathetic and laughable... until I remember how many Germans believed the Nazi propaganda about Jews using the blood of Christian children to make their Matzohs.
*Sighs and looks to the heavens for an answer... which just may include a big-ass comet and a whole passel of asteroids on a collision course.*

Date: 2004-11-18 09:17 am (UTC)I can't believe that people think that way. Haven't these people ever seen a movie? Just because Orlando Bloom got pointy ears and silk put on him for LotR doesn't mean it made him an elf once he takes the stuff off. (He's still sexy as ever, but that's different.) It's called acting! Sometimes people like to do stuff differently than they normally would, just for the sake of entertainment. Then again, most of these puritan f*ckt*rds probably don't watch movies or TV because they think they're ZOMG TEH DEVIL!!!!!111

back in the olden days of yore (like turn of the century up to about 1930s I guess),
and this was considered completely normal.
It always takes one butt-head to ruin it for everybody!!!

I think it's amusing that rather than let the boys wear girl clothes that they want them to wear military uniforms. I'm not sure if the next step is brown shirts or black trenchcoats but it's not a good one...
Feh. Their way of life will be gone within 2 generations and they're just clawing at the last bit of light. :)
