Texas School bans Crossdressing Day for Homecoming; substitutes "Camo Day".

Stolen shamelessly from [livejournal.com profile] lostboydv.

What the hell? Is Sadie Hawkins Day next? Lord knows, you don't want those ladies to be askin' the menfolks out, why- they might get uppity idears! Next thing ya know, they'd be wantin' ta vote and own property!

Crossdressing encourages homosexuality? Well, I guess all those pants my mom made me wear when I was growing up are to blame for why I had crushes on Julie Newmar and Tina Louise! It's the PANTS! They made me think girls were pretty!

This is totally ridiculous, crossdressing has nothing to do with homosexuality. Haven't these people ever seen Ed Wood? Just because some gay men like to crossdress doesn't mean every crossdresser is gay or even bisexual. This rigid kind of thinking is so backwards. I could have sworn we were living in 2004, not 1954.

For the record, the football team and cheerleader team at my high school would dress in drag for one day during homecoming week. They'd basically dress up as the opposite group- guys in cheerleader outfits, girls in football outfits. It was an old tradition that went back years. I doubt it made anyone gay, though I did later see two of the star football players making out with each other at the Bonham Exchange (the big gay club here in SA). But I am pretty sure they were gay before they dressed in drag. You can't be "turned gay". You either are or you aren't, you're just born that way.

Most crossdressers are straight. A lot of 'em are just so into the opposite sex that they like to be like them sometimes. And what's with substituting CAMO day for crossdressing day? It's like saying, "It's OK for the women to crossdress like soldiers and pretend to be blowing up Those Dirty Arabs, but by God, our boys will NOT be seen in dresses. Quick! Somebody give my son a plastic gun, right now!"

This is endemic to the culture. The US is incredibly puritanical about sex, but endless violence is perfectly fine. Except violence associated with wars we're currently engaged in. That might cause the public to resist military actions, so that's not acceptable.
